When it comes to streaming, you probably already know about the big ones: Netflix, HBO Max, Disney +, AppleTV+, Amazon Prime Video, and Hulu. More and more streaming services are emerging all the time, too.  Over the last year or so, we’ve been able to add Paramount + and Peacock to the list. But the best online streaming services don’t stop there. While some services try to be a catch-all for streaming TV, others specialize in niche areas, like horror, anime, or even British procedurals. In this article, let’s explore the best online streaming service for you according to your preferences.

The best online streaming service for live sports and news

A good bet for live TV is fuboTV. When it comes to live sports and news, it’s is one of the best online streaming services out there. fuboTV offers extensive live sports (soccer, NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, NCAA, golf, motorsports, cycling, and more), over 10,000 shows and movies on-demand, and up to 1,000 hours of DVR storage.

FuboTV isn’t alone in its live TV offerings. Hulu + Live TV, DirecTV Stream, and YouTube TV are all similarly priced. For a cheaper online streaming service that offers live TV, Sling TV might be a good option.

Backed by AMC, Shudder is a premium online streaming service dedicated to all things horror. In addition to tons of horror, thriller, and suspense movies and TV series, Shudder also creates their own original content. Top streaming services for anime-lovers

While Netflix and HBO Max both offer anime shows to stream, it might be worth checking out some dedicated anime streaming services. The good news is that a few sites offer free streaming (with ads). First, decide whether you want to watch subtitled or dubbed (re-recorded audio in English or other languages) anime. For subtitled anime, try Crunchyroll, the world’s largest collection of anime. Funimation is the place for dubbed anime.

If you want to watch anime and avoid ads, check out VRV’s online streaming service.  The service includes the Crunchyroll library and several other channels dedicated to animation, like Cartoon Hangover and Boomerang.

Online streaming services for K-drama

Fortunately for Korean drama lovers, there are a few great streaming services dedicated to the genre. The first, Viki, is a free site (with ads) that has over 1,100 K-Dramas and variety shows. Viki also has a paid subscription for HD K-Dramas. Another payment tier includes Kocowa’s catalogue of shows.

What’s Kocowa? Well, it’s another streaming service dedicated to Korean TV. The service shows Korean shows just five hours after airing overseas and includes several K-Dramas. Don’t miss the Korean drama options on both Netflix and Hulu if you already have those streaming services.

The best streaming service for British TV

To stream British TV, it comes down to your preferences once again. Created by the BBC and ITV, BritBox has lots of favorites including the 1995 Pride and Prejudice, the original British version of The Office, and 26 seasons of the classic Doctor Who, including many of the specials.

Considerations for streaming TV

As you begin to search for which online streaming services best suit you, make sure it’s compatible with your streaming device. Not all services play on all devices.

Also, before the streaming TV binge begins, make sure your internet speed can cut it. No one likes a show to buffer during the best part. You need about 20 Mbps for optimal HD streaming. Fortunately, internet service like Quantum Fiber can give all the speed you need and then some. In fact, if each member of your family wants to stream simultaneously (and watch their own special streaming service), they can.
